Wardwizard Innovations & Mobility, creators of the ‘Joy e-bike’ electric two-wheelers and ‘Joy e-rik’ electric three-wheelers, is charting a course into the future with an innovative hydrogen-fuelled electric scooter. This leap forward places Wardwizard at the forefront of a pivotal shift in the automotive sector, signaling a bold step beyond conventional electric vehicle technology.
Speaking to Autocar Professional at a recent industry gathering, Sanjay Sablok, President of Operations at Wardwizard Innovations & Mobility, unveiled the company’s strategy to introduce a hydrogen scooter within a two to three-year timeframe. This plan underscores Wardwizard’s commitment to pioneering sustainable mobility solutions, aligning with the broader automotive industry’s pivot towards hydrogen fuel cell technology—an area traditionally explored by leading automakers for larger vehicle models.
Designed to deliver a 50-kilometer range, this scooter will incorporate an external electrolyser system for charging its onboard fuel cell, which in turn activates the motor. Sablok detailed the process: “The electrolyser charges the tank, and the tank is plugged into the compartment at the given compartment.” This innovative approach heralds a move towards more efficient, environmentally friendly transportation options.
Despite the excitement surrounding this cutting-edge development, Wardwizard Innovations is also diligently expanding its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio across various segments. Yet, the path forward is strewn with challenges, notably the imperative for enhanced government intervention to foster widespread EV adoption in India. Sablok pointed to significant hurdles, including the need for advancements in battery technology, the expansion of charging infrastructure, and the improvement of cost-efficiency. The presence of established competitors, particularly from China, highlights the critical need for ongoing government support through initiatives like PLI, FAME, or the Advanced Chemistry Cell policy.
Operating from a sprawling 8–10 acre facility in Baroda, Gujarat, with the capacity to produce nearly 400,000 units annually, Wardwizard is planning to further its manufacturing prowess by setting up a new 100-acre EV ancillary cluster in Gujarat dedicated to component production. This expansion is aimed at strengthening operations and enhancing production efficiency, positioning the company for success in the evolving mobility landscape.
Looking towards the horizon, Wardwizard recognizes the vast potential for market expansion into countries transitioning from fossil fuels, including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Africa. The surge of interest from Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East, notably with the UAE’s adoption of electric taxis, illustrates the global trend towards electric mobility. Wardwizard’s venture into hydrogen technology not only positions the company as a leader in sustainable transportation but also as a key player in the global shift towards greener, more efficient mobility solutions.
