The Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB is not just another electric vehicle (EV); it’s a revitalized symbol for the Volkswagen Group of America, resuscitating the beloved Bus for the 21st century. The vehicle, which succeeds the T4 generation EuroVan retired from North America two decades ago, aims to be the face of the brand’s all-electric ID. family, setting an example for future electric models.
The American version of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB is characterized by several impressive modifications over the standard European version that hit the market in 2022. Out of Spec Reviews and State of Charge, two renowned YouTube channels, provided the first detailed look at this electrified marvel.
The vehicle got an exclusive review from ‘Out of Spec Reviews’ Kyle Conner, who notably identified that nearly every issue with the European ID. Buzz had been addressed in the American version. The extended wheelbase of the U.S. version provides more space for up to seven passengers, with additional luggage room. Furthermore, a larger battery delivers an increased range of approximately 260 miles for the RWD model, according to Volkswagen’s estimates. The vehicle also features a more powerful rear electric motor and a massive glass roof that brightens up the cabin.
The U.S. variant of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB boasts several distinct features and standard equipment that are either optional or unavailable in the European model. An illuminated front badge – unattainable in the European model due to legal constraints – makes the U.S. version shine. Other enhancements comprise front seats with massage and cooling functions, heated front and outer second-row seats, heated steering wheel, removable third-row seats, illuminated touch sliders for temperature and volume adjustments, a 30-color ambient lighting system, power sliding rear doors and tailgate, and power sliding windows on the rear doors.
These power sliding windows, exclusive to the American model, are made possible by the vehicle’s longer sliding doors, adding a touch of innovation and luxury to the car. You can view this feature and many more in the videos published by Out of Spec Reviews and State of Charge.
Volkswagen plans to commence test drive events in 2024, with the ID. Buzz expected to hit the dealers in the first quarter of 2025. The vehicle’s size roughly mirrors that of the Atlas Cross Sport, with approximately 195″ in length, 78″ in width, 75″ in height, and a 128″ long wheelbase. The U.S. version comes with three rows of seats, compared to the European version’s two rows. The U.S. model will be equipped with a 91 kWh battery, the same variant available in Europe. The anticipated starting price is around $58,000, although official pricing will be announced closer to the launch. While reservations are not yet open, interested parties can request information from their nearest dealers on the vehicle’s availability.
The Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB is not just an electric vehicle; it’s a testament to Volkswagen’s commitment to leading the way in the EV market while preserving the charm and legacy of one of its most iconic models. It’s certainly an exciting prospect for all EV enthusiasts and the automotive industry alike.
