Volkswagen’s Scout brand is set to make waves with the unveiling of two concept vehicles next month, an all-electric SUV and a rugged pickup truck. These new models represent a strategic push by Volkswagen to bolster its footprint in the highly competitive US market, where demand for tough, versatile vehicles is soaring. Production is scheduled to commence in 2026.
With the SUV designed to rival the likes of the Land Rover Defender, Ford Bronco, and Jeep Wrangler, and the pickup truck aiming to challenge the Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning, Scout’s ambition is clear. These vehicles tap into the growing American appetite for electric mobility, without compromising on the ruggedness expected of off-road models.
“Built for work and play, our new Scout SUV and truck will be rugged, capable, and versatile. They have to be in order to credibly don the Scout badge. And with real tactile controls and real feel, they’ll meet the needs of Americans on the road and way off,” said Scout CEO Scott Keogh, emphasizing the authenticity behind the Scout badge.
Drawing design cues from the classic International Harvester Scout II, both vehicles embrace a retro-futuristic aesthetic with sharp lines and distinctive vertical taillights. Higher-end trims will cater to the off-road community with chunky all-terrain tires, while more road-friendly options will be available.
Production will take place in a state-of-the-art facility in South Carolina, with Magna providing cutting-edge batteries and electronics for the electric powertrains. The Scout vehicles will debut on a new ladder-frame platform, engineered to deliver rugged performance unlike Volkswagen’s existing MEB and PPE architectures.
Volkswagen’s investment in Scout is underscored by plans to ramp up production to 200,000 units annually, a bold move that signals the brand’s aggressive pursuit of leadership within the electric vehicle landscape.
