Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has unveiled the design intricacies of the anticipated seventh generation Transporter, redefining a timeless classic with contemporary flair. Albert Kirzinger, Chief Designer at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, stressed that this iteration not only brings the iconic Transporter into contemporary times but also preserves its rich legacy.
“The details of the seventh Bulli generation pick up the characteristic design features of its six predecessors and give them a new interpretation. This has a tradition – every new Volkswagen Transporter has always represented a new visual beginning, a stylistic bridge between a long history, the present and the future,” Kirzinger stated. This strategy has propelled the Transporter series to maintain its position as the global leader in its class for over eighty years. With pre-sales commencing in Europe at €36,780, the market debut is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.
The exterior modifications of the new Transporter reflect the enduring ‘Bulli’ identity, a nickname that signifies the Transporter lineage. “One second is all it takes to immediately recognise the Transporter – which has been redesigned from the first to last millimetre – as the successor to the T6.1 and as a member of the Bulli family,” Kirzinger remarked. The ‘Bulli line’—a defining contour below the side windows—remains a staple across the series.
Detailing the updates, Kirzinger illuminated several areas:
Front: Evolutionary changes are evident in the radiator grille and headlights, hinting at predecessors like the T5 and T6.1, while the front facade aligns with current Bulli family models such as the Multivan and ID. Buzz.
Silhouette: The side profile extends the headlight’s upper contour into a prominent linear curvature—the Bulli line—that gracefully divides the vehicle’s upper and lower sections, echoing the T1.
Rear: The rear maintains a cohesive appearance with redesigned tail lights that include LED dots, linked by a sleek horizontal strip beneath the rear window that accentuates the Volkswagen logo and extends into the tail lights with precision.
Available in diesel, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric versions, the new model cleverly places the charging socket beneath the right-hand headlight. The design also introduces a fresh range of 16-, 17-, and 19-inch wheel rims, highlighted by the distinctive 19-inch Indianapolis alloy wheel.
