Initiated with a partnering arrangement and term sheet in 2022, this collaboration now advances decisively. The pact deepens Volkswagen and Mahindra’s partnership, setting a precedent for future joint venture enhancements. As the first external adopter of Volkswagen’s innovative unified cell concept—central to its battery strategy—Mahindra demonstrates commitment to electric vehicle innovation and efficiency.
Spanning multiple years, this supply contract pledges approximately 50 GWh throughout its duration, underscoring a robust commitment to e-mobility proliferation. Aimed at fortifying the e-mobility framework within the burgeoning Indian automotive sector, this partnership arrives at a critical juncture. With India’s automotive market exceeding five million new vehicles annually as of 2023 and the passenger car segment on the brink of electrification, the initiative is timely.
Mahindra’s ambition to debut five all-electric SUVs on the INGLO platform by December 2024 signifies a pivotal shift towards electrification in India, aligning with global carbon reduction goals to combat climate change.
