Uber has renamed its ‘Uber Green’ service to ‘Uber Electric’ in the United States, reinforcing its commitment to boost electric vehicle rides. The company revealed that it has now more than 200,000 EV drivers worldwide and is rolling out fresh incentives and features for both passengers and drivers.
As part of rebranding, Uber is also introducing several new EV-focused initiatives for both drivers and riders. For drivers, the company is rolling out its previously announced $4,000 ‘Go Electric’ grants to help them transition to electric vehicles—initially limited to New York City, California, Colorado, and Massachusetts. Nationwide, Uber drivers can also receive an extra $1,000 when purchasing an EV through the TrueCar marketplace.
The shift represents Uber’s move toward an all-electric fleet. Previously, Uber Green allowed riders to choose between hybrid and fully electric vehicles, but earlier this year, the company transitioned the service to be exclusively electric.

Since then, the number of EVs operating on the platform has steadily increased, with Uber noting that its drivers are switching to electric up to five times faster than the average U.S. motorist. The rebranding aims to align Uber’s image with its growing emphasis on electric vehicles.
Uber also declared plans to broaden the feature to include automakers like Kia, Hyundai, Ford, Nissan, Volkswagen, and Mercedes, and to extend it across 25 countries in North America and Europe. As a bonus, riders can enjoy 20% off their next electric trip by using the promo code GOELECTRIC20 in the app.
Uber’s grant can be used alongside various state-specific incentives, helping drivers transition to electric vehicles more easily, depending on their location.
