Elon Musk revealed on Thursday that Grok, the AI chatbot developed by his company xAI, will be integrated into Tesla vehicles starting next week. “Grok is coming to Tesla vehicles very soon. Next week at the latest,” Musk posted on X.
The update follows xAI’s recent launch of Grok 4, the newest iteration of its conversational AI model.
The deployment marks the first official integration of the chatbot into Tesla’s electric vehicles—a step Elon Musk had previously alluded to but hadn’t detailed until now.
Elon Musk unveiled Grok 4 on Wednesday, accompanied by engineers from xAI. The latest model boasts enhanced voice functionality and, according to the company, outperformed competing AI systems across multiple benchmark tests. While Musk acknowledged that Grok 4 occasionally falls short in common sense and hasn’t yet made groundbreaking discoveries in technology or physics, he confidently suggested those milestones are only a matter of time.

Tesla drivers subscribed to Full Self-Driving (FSD) will soon gain access to Grok, introducing a dynamic layer of live, voice-based interaction to boost the in-car experience.
Inside Tesla vehicles, Grok will operate as a voice-activated assistant capable of understanding natural language commands. Drivers can interact with it to get real-time updates on navigation, traffic, and vehicle diagnostics. Designed to be both conversational and context-aware, the system aims to streamline in-car communication and make it feel more intuitive. Grok will be embedded directly into Tesla’s onboard interface, removing the need for external apps or devices.
Grok’s rollout has been overshadowed by controversy over its recent responses. Earlier this week, xAI faced criticism for offensive content generated by the chatbot, leading the company to strengthen its moderation systems and introduce stricter filters in the latest version.
