Tata Motors and Tata International, part of the renowned Tata Group conglomerate, have inaugurated a state-of-the-art Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Pune, India. This facility, branded as Re.Wi.Re (Recycle with Respect), underscores Tata’s commitment to environmentally responsible vehicle dismantling.
The Pune facility boasts an annual capacity to process 21,000 end-of-life vehicles (ELVs), using eco-friendly and advanced recycling methods. Operated by Tata International Vehicle Applications (TIVA), a subsidiary of Tata International, the facility is equipped to dismantle both passenger and commercial vehicles.
Speaking about the initiative, Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, remarked, “Re.Wi.Re represents our commitment to creating a circular economy, leveraging advanced recycling processes that not only extract maximum value from ELVs but also contribute to our nation’s sustainability goals.”
Rajeev Batra, CEO of TIVA, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, “With the capacity to dismantle 21,000 vehicles annually, this facility addresses the growing need for efficient and safe vehicle recycling. This step is pivotal in creating a sustainable and organized ecosystem for our society.”
The Pune facility is the latest addition to Tata’s growing network of six Re.Wi.Re facilities, joining existing centres in Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Surat, Chandigarh, and Delhi. These facilities are fully digitalized and paperless, equipped with specialized dismantling stations for components like tires, batteries, and various automotive fluids and gases.
Each vehicle undergoes a thorough documentation and dismantling process aligned with India’s vehicle scrappage policy, ensuring responsible disposal of all components. Tata Motors emphasizes that these measures guarantee safe recycling practices, contributing to India’s broader sustainability goals.
The Re.Wi.Re initiative reflects Tata Group’s commitment to fostering a circular economy and sustainable vehicle lifecycle management, setting a benchmark for the Indian automotive industry.
