A survey by Anyline, a leader in AI-powered mobile data capture technology, reveals a strong demand for data-driven tools among automotive service technicians, emphasizing the growing importance of digital solutions in the tire and automotive service sector. The findings, presented at the 2024 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) tradeshow, underscore a shift toward advanced technology to meet industry challenges and enhance customer service.
According to the survey, 70% of automotive technicians now rely on technology for at least half of their daily tasks, and 68% report confidence in using advanced digital diagnostic tools. Notably, 60% of technicians expressed interest in Anyline’s smartphone-based tool that measures tire tread depth, highlighting an increasing openness to incorporating innovative digital platforms into their workflows. Additionally, 87% believe that digital data and analytics improve customer trust and satisfaction, underlining technology’s role in fostering positive client relationships.
“Technicians are showing real enthusiasm for tech-driven solutions that streamline their work and enhance the customer experience,” said Chris Garcia, Head of U.S. Automotive at Anyline. “Our mobile data capture platforms that increase operational efficiency and eliminate manual data-entry errors. Digitized data empower techs to service more vehicles every day, reducing customer wait times and improving the overall service experience.”
The survey also points to critical industry concerns, including a looming shortage of skilled technicians. Nearly half of respondents (46%) view this shortage as the primary challenge facing the industry over the next decade. To address this issue, automotive service providers are adopting digital diagnostic tools to improve operational efficiency, enabling existing staff to handle more vehicles.
“Anyline’s vehicle and tire scanning technology helps address the industry’s labor challenges and technicians’ needs head-on,” Garcia added. “Shops that deploy digital tire and vehicle inspection platforms are better positioned to recruit and retain highly sought after technicians. These tools eliminate manual data entry and streamline operations so technicians can spend more time under the hood doing the parts of the job they enjoy most.”
While technology integration is advancing, 57% of technicians still rely on manual logging for tire information, and 72% find this manual data entry process time-consuming. Anyline’s AI-powered tire sidewall and tread depth scanner integrates seamlessly with existing digital systems, providing instant, actionable insights to improve efficiency and reduce human error. The scanner also enables technicians to use their smartphones to measure tire tread depth accurately, enhancing safety by detecting wear quickly and reliably.
