Stellantis has introduced HVO Aurora, a new initiative aimed at helping European businesses cut CO₂ emissions by using renewable fuels in their existing light commercial vehicle fleets.
The project was developed under the company’s Star*Up intrapreneurship program and is supported by the Stellantis Pro One commercial vehicles division.
HVO Aurora centers on tracking and verifying the real-world use of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, a renewable diesel made from waste materials such as used cooking oils and animal fats.
The system records fuel type, distance, and consumption, then uploads the data to the cloud to give businesses clear, real-time evidence of their use of low-carbon fuel and the resulting environmental benefits.

Luca Marengo, Head of Product and Innovation for Stellantis Pro One, said the project shows how emissions can be reduced immediately using fuels that work with vehicles already in service.
He added that Stellantis aims to provide practical and scalable solutions that support lower full-cycle emissions across Europe’s mobility sector.
The company has begun a month-long European road demonstration in partnership with SP3H, a French specialist in smart sensors for low-carbon fuels.
Two vehicles, a Citroën Berlingo and a Fiat Professional Ducato, have been fitted with SP3H’s connected FluidBox Micro sensor and set off on a tour across several countries.
Their objective is to show that traceable, cleaner fuels can be used in existing fleets without any modifications or new infrastructure. As they travel, real-world data will be transmitted through SP3H’s FluidBOX platform to confirm HVO use and estimate CO₂ savings.

Stellantis stresses that the demonstration highlights the need for multiple paths toward cleaner mobility. By certifying the onboard use of renewable fuels, HVO Aurora offers an immediate and inclusive option for lowering emissions, especially for light commercial vehicle operators.
The company noted that all Stellantis cars and light-duty commercial vehicles currently on the market already support HVO diesel that meets the EN15940 standard. Many Euro 5 and Euro 6 diesel vehicles already on the road can also use the fuel without modification.
For businesses seeking quick and practical ways to improve their environmental performance, HVO Aurora provides a straightforward method to track and certify renewable fuel use in existing fleets. It enables companies to cut emissions without altering day-to-day operations or investing in new infrastructure.
