Under the binding agreement, Stellantis and Ample will collaborate to refine and implement Ample’s cutting-edge technology, which allows for rapid battery swapping at dedicated stations. This method ensures that EV drivers can replace their depleted batteries with fully charged ones in mere minutes, akin to a traditional gas refueling experience but with the eco-friendly advantage of electric power.
Global Expansion and Initial Rollout
Discussions are underway to expand this technology across various Stellantis platforms and geographies, catering to both fleet and consumer demands. The initial pilot program is set to launch in Madrid, Spain, in 2024. It will utilize a fleet of 100 Fiat 500e vehicles, part of Stellantis’ Free2move car-sharing service. The Fiat 500e, a global best-seller in the EV market, especially in Europe, will be the first to benefit from this technology.
