Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has reached a significant production milestone with the manufacturing of its 500,000th engine at its Chakan facility in Maharashtra. This achievement underscores the company’s growing role in India’s automotive sector and its contribution to the Volkswagen Group’s global supply chain.
The Chakan plant, with an annual production capacity of approximately 189,000 vehicles, manufactures models for both Skoda and Volkswagen in India. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in supporting the Volkswagen Group’s export operations.
Since its entry into the Indian market in 2001, the Volkswagen Group has strengthened its presence through five brands—Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini—demonstrating its long-term commitment to the country.
The company has made significant investments in localizing production and adapting TSI engine technology to suit Indian market conditions. This focus on technological advancement and local manufacturing aligns with Volkswagen’s India 2.0 strategy, which aims to position India as a key global manufacturing hub.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India continues to invest in research and development, manufacturing capabilities, and local partnerships to cater to the evolving needs of Indian consumers. By enhancing affordability and quality while prioritizing customer experience, the company is strengthening its position in the competitive Indian automotive market.

Beyond conventional vehicle production, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India is also emphasizing sustainability and innovation.
