Marking a milestone in luxury automobile history, Rolls-Royce recently revealed its exclusive Droptail roadster. With only four units crafted, each potentially holds the status of ‘world’s priciest new car.’
This unveiling signifies a notable shift for the esteemed brand. Beyond its status as their first two-seater creation, the Droptail stands out with unmatched bespoke craftsmanship. The initial showcase, dubbed ‘La Rose Noire’, offers a vivid insight into Rolls-Royce’s vision of supreme vehicular luxury.
Exact figures remain a secret, yet whispers among experts, with voices like the UK’s Autocar magazine, hint at a value eclipsing the astonishing $40 million of the 2021 Boat Tail, previously the unchallenged apex of automotive pricing.
Drawing from the past, the Droptail’s aesthetics nod to legendary predecessors like the 1912 Silver Ghost ‘Sluggard’ and the 1925 Silver Ghost ‘Piccadilly’. Modern touches grace the vehicle, such as the avant-garde 3D-printed Rolls-Royce grille, crafted from 202 meticulously polished steel ingots and complimented by state-of-the-art LED headlights.
‘La Rose Noire’ boasts a lavish pomegranate hue, drawing its essence from the Black Baccara rose, creating a vivid juxtaposition against its shadowy detailing. Eschewing traditional fabric roofing, it boasts an innovative carbon-fiber hard-top, integrated with an electrochromic glass segment, offering adjustable transparency at a button’s touch.
The cabin radiates classic Rolls-Royce finesse, dominated by a parquetry pattern consisting of 1603 Black Sycamore veneer triangles, meticulously positioned to evoke the imagery of scattered rose petals. This masterpiece, painstakingly crafted over nine months, is the work of a single dedicated artisan.
Beneath its refined exterior, the Droptail conceals formidable power: a 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12, delivering an impressive 481kW and 840Nm.
As the world gets a glimpse of the first, anticipation grows for the remaining trio. Rolls-Royce’s dedication to redefining luxury standards is evident.
