The highly anticipated Rolls Royce’s Spectre, the luxury automaker’s first fully electric car, has seen a tremendous response in pre-orders, indicating a successful leap into the future of automotive technology for the historic British brand.
From the moment it was announced, the Spectre, a super coupe, generated substantial interest and attention, effectively filling up the order book until the end of 2024. With deliveries set to commence in the fourth quarter of 2023, the electric revolution for the Rolls-Royce brand is now officially on the horizon.
Notably, this tremendous response is part of Rolls-Royce’s broader strategy to transition to an all-electric fleet. The automaker has committed to offering exclusively fully-electric vehicles by the end of 2030, cementing its place in the evolving world of sustainable mobility.
Despite the positive developments with the Spectre, Rolls-Royce reported a marginal decline in sales during the first half of 2023. The automaker sold a total of 3,181 cars, marking a 0.3 per cent decrease. This slight dip coincided with the discontinuation of the Wraith and Dawn models, with the latter having achieved the status of the best-selling drophead convertible in the company’s storied history.
The second quarter of 2023 showed promising signs of recovery. Despite selling 1,541 units, a decline of 1.7 per cent from the same period in the previous year, the overall sales till June witnessed a slight increase of 0.3 per cent compared to the previous year.
As the only two-door car currently in the Rolls-Royce portfolio, the Spectre stands as a distinguished offering, nestling between the brand’s Cullinan and Phantom models. As it nears the end of its development phase scheduled for the second quarter of 2023, the final calibrations for power, acceleration, and range are being fine-tuned.
Initial projections suggest that the Spectre will present a remarkable all-electric range of 520 km per WLTP standards. Its powertrain, expected to output 430 kW (576 bhp), is anticipated to generate a torque of 900 Nm, allowing for remarkable acceleration. Reportedly, the Spectre can clock a speed of 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.4 seconds.
The resounding success of the Spectre’s pre-orders illuminates a promising path forward for Rolls-Royce’s all-electric ambitions. It also reaffirms the brand’s capacity to merge its renowned tradition of luxury and performance with cutting-edge, sustainable technology, effectively reshaping the landscape of electric mobility. Amidst the backdrop of this landmark development, enthusiasts and industry observers alike are eager to see the continued evolution of Rolls-Royce in the era of electric mobility.
