Renault has confirmed the return of its iconic Duster SUV to the Indian market, with the new-generation model set for unveiling on January 26, 2026.
The original Duster, first launched in India in 2012, sold over 200,000 units locally and pioneered the country’s B+ SUV segment, which now accounts for nearly a quarter of all passenger vehicle sales.
The new Duster will be assembled at Renault’s Chennai facility, marking the activation of the automaker’s fifth industrial hub outside Europe, following existing production bases in Latin America, South Korea, Turkey, and Morocco.

The move aligns with Renault’s International Game Plan 2027, a strategy aimed at designing, developing, and producing vehicles closer to their target markets to better meet customer expectations.
“Renault Duster is more than just a name, it’s a true legend,” said Stéphane Deblaise, Chief Executive Officer of Renault India. “A symbol of adventure, reliability, and innovation, its comeback demonstrates our long-term commitment to the Indian market.
The new Duster will build on its heritage while offering a modern design, advanced technology, and enhanced performance.”
India, which emerged as the world’s fastest-growing car market in 2024 with a 7% growth rate, is now the third-largest automotive market globally. Renault views the country as a key growth destination and sees the Duster’s return as an opportunity to reinforce its position in the competitive SUV segment.
Since its global debut, the Duster has achieved nearly two million sales across about 100 countries, establishing itself as a symbol of rugged reliability.
Sylvia dos Santos, Head of Naming Strategy at Renault’s Global Marketing Division, explained that the decision to retain the Duster name stems from its strong brand equity and recognition.
“Duster is a global name that conveys robustness and adventure, derived from the English word ‘dust,’ a fitting tribute to the roads it conquers,” she said.
