Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL), a key player in the Indian automobile industry, is propelling towards its 2045 Carbon Neutrality goal, first declared earlier this year in February. This ambition has spurred the company’s Chennai plant to lead a campaign for the replacement of single-use plastic items with environmentally friendly alternatives.
In recognition of World Environment Day, RNAIPL revealed that their carbon neutrality approach is constructed around three key strategies: increasing the use of green energy, boosting energy usage efficiencies, and persistently incorporating energy-efficient technology at their Oragadam plant.
By FY 2022-23, RNAIPL’s approach had already facilitated a remarkable decrease in emissions, amounting to an annual reduction equivalent to 87,500 tonnes of CO2. “Our steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in every initiative we undertake. We are dedicated to an ambitious trajectory towards Carbon Neutrality by 2045…” stated Keerthi Prakash, the company’s managing director, who also emphasised RNAIPL’s objective to fortify its industry leadership position.
RNAIPL’s Chennai plant currently draws nearly 60% of its electricity from renewable resources. The plant has planned to augment its in-house solar capacity from 2.2 MW to 14 MW by 2026, by deploying additional rooftop and floating solar panels on the plant’s pond. RNAIPL has set a goal to meet 85% of the plant’s energy needs with renewable power by 2030 and transition entirely to renewable energy by 2045.
