Porsche, the iconic sports car manufacturer, expanded its My Porsche App to incorporate innovative features within Apple CarPlay®. This marks Porsche as the first automaker to facilitate more accessible vehicle functions through CarPlay®.
Mattias Ulbrich, CEO of Porsche Digital and CIO of Porsche AG, expressed excitement about the app’s upgrade. “We are excited to further improve the My Porsche App and using the capabilities of Apple CarPlay to deliver a truly enhanced customer experience. Technology and digitization are crucial factors for the enduring fascination of our brand – now and in the next 75 years,” Ulbrich emphasized.
The My Porsche App serves as a comprehensive digital control hub for Porsche vehicles. It displays vital information such as the vehicle battery’s state of charge, enables users to adjust air conditioning, and seamlessly sends destinations to the vehicle’s navigation system. Moreover, it connects existing accounts with third-party providers like Apple Music® to associated apps within Porsche Communication Management (PCM).
The upgraded My Porsche App amalgamates vehicle functions with the immersive CarPlay® experience. It has the ability to display images of the specific model within CarPlay® and enables users to adjust audio settings, change radio stations, modify climate control settings, and alter ambient lighting via the app. These functions can further be merged into wellness modes like “relax”, “warm up”, and “refresh” using quick actions in CarPlay®. Porsche drivers can also leverage Siri® to control various vehicle functions while driving.
To activate these new features, users can simply scan a QR code displayed in the PCM. The My Porsche App will receive regular updates to ensure Porsche customers can benefit from the latest developments in CarPlay functionality. This sophisticated functionality makes its debut in the new Porsche Cayenne and will be introduced to other Porsche models in the future.
