Polestar has announced an expansion of its partnership with Weeve, the Canadian electric vehicle (EV) subscription company, significantly increasing the availability of electric vehicles in Vancouver. With this strategic move, Weeve will boost its fleet of Polestar 2 vehicles from 150 to 450 units to meet escalating demand.
Originally named Louelec, Weeve provides flexible monthly EV subscriptions that include maintenance and insurance, catering primarily to drivers connected with on-demand services such as Uber. Since its founding in 2020, Weeve has expanded its operations from Montreal to Ottawa and Toronto, with its latest expansion into Vancouver.
Hugues Bissonnette, Head of Polestar Canada, articulated the brand’s dedication to advancing electric mobility across the nation. “Polestar is committed to accelerating the move to electric mobility throughout Canada, and the expansion of our collaboration with Weeve will allow more drivers to experience Polestar and our premium EV products,” said Bissonnette.
Léo Bouisson, CEO of Weeve, commented on the robust demand for Polestar 2 vehicles within their existing fleet. “Entering the Vancouver market allows us to satisfy this growing demand and continue offering top-tier EV choices to our subscribers, ensuring reliable, enjoyable, and safe vehicles for on-demand service drivers,” Bouisson noted.
The initiative also enjoys backing from key mobility industry stakeholders, including Uber. Michael van Hemmen, General Manager of Mobility for Uber in Canada, lauded the collaborative effort. “Adopting zero-emission vehicles is essential, and facilitating driver trials of electric vehicles is fundamental to our sustainability objectives,” van Hemmen observed.
“Through our partnership with Weeve, hundreds of drivers have had an opportunity to try an EV as their primary rideshare vehicle and understand the benefits and cost savings across the country. At Uber, we’re committed to becoming a zero-emission mobility platform.”
In alignment with its expansion strategy, Polestar is also enhancing its commercial operations in Canada. The company plans to establish a new headquarters in Montreal and increase its retail presence from three to eight locations in major Canadian markets.
Polestar 2 distinguishes itself with its innovative Scandinavian design and the world’s first in-car infotainment system powered by Google’s Android Automotive OS. The 2024 model of Polestar 2 has secured a top safety rating from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), emphasizing its position as one of the safest vehicles on the market.
