This year’s IAA auto show in Munich will feature only one Stellantis brand: Opel. The show, running from September 5-10, will not see the participation of Stellantis’ other 13 brands, including prominent names such as Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, and Jeep.
A Stellantis spokesperson confirmed to Automobilwoche, Automotive News Europe’s sister publication, that “No other Stellantis brand except Opel will be represented at the IAA.”
Opel is seizing this opportunity to underscore its transition towards electrification, with a plan to transition into an all-electric brand by 2028. Two new models will be showcased at the event, including the Astra Sports Tourer Electric compact station wagon and an updated version of the Corsa small car, now with a 250-mile range and a 156 hp electric motor. Opel also hinted at a third unveiling, details of which remain under wraps.
This year’s IAA Mobility event, held in Munich’s Riem trade fair grounds and at other locations around the city’s historic center, will also feature a broad range of other major automotive brands. These include Volkswagen Group, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, and Renault. There will also be a significant presence of Chinese brands such as BYD and First Auto Works’ Hongqi brand.
Several major tech companies and suppliers are also slated to participate, including Robert Bosch, Continental, Forvia, Hyundai Mobis, Magna International, Webasto, ZF, Qualcomm, IBM, Samsung, Amazon AWS, and Luminar.
The biennial show is organized by Germany’s VDA auto association and was traditionally held in Frankfurt. The location was shifted to Munich in 2021 with the aim of attracting more visitors.
The 2021 show saw no presence from any Stellantis brand, including Opel. This year’s participation of Opel signals a potential shift in Stellantis’s strategy towards this important event in the global automotive industry.
