The Ontario government recently completed a fruitful business mission to Germany and Switzerland, with the objective of attracting investments and solidifying ties with economic counterparts in the Ontario auto Industry. The mission involved marketing Ontario’s automotive supply chain and innovative solutions at IAA Mobility, the premier global event for the mobility sector, encompassing both the automotive and transportation industries.
Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, emphasized the critical importance of presenting Ontario’s burgeoning automotive supply chain on an international stage and consistently advocating for the province to global enterprises. “Missions like this have helped Ontario attract over $25 billion in transformative auto and EV battery investments from global automakers, parts suppliers, and electric vehicle battery and materials manufacturers over the last three years,” stated Fedeli.
The mission included a delegation of 10 organizations from Ontario, such as Invest Ontario and the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN), which spotlighted products and innovations from Ontario at the IAA Mobility event in Germany. The delegation’s goal was to market Ontario to international investors, potential collaborators, and customers to augment the province’s automotive supply chain.
Raed Kadri, Head of OVIN, pointed out that Ontario is the nexus where inventive ideas intersect with automotive manufacturing excellence. “Missions like this have helped Ontario attract over $25 billion in transformative auto and EV battery investments from global automakers, parts suppliers, and electric vehicle battery and materials manufacturers over the last three years.” Kadri declared.
Additionally, representatives from the Ontario government interacted with prominent enterprises in the automotive, technology, and life sciences sectors, such as BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz, ElringKlinger, Max Aicher Group, Intellegam, ZF Group, Schaeffler, Siemens, AstraZeneca, and Emerald Technology Ventures. These engagements facilitated a deeper understanding of the companies’ operations within Ontario and their expansion strategies. Notably, Infineon Technologies, a global leader in semiconductor supply for vehicles, recently announced its intention to acquire GaN Systems based in Ottawa.
Trevor Dauphinee, CEO of Invest Ontario, underscored the strategic importance of the alliance between Germany, a titan in the automotive industry, and Ontario, a rising force in electric vehicles. “With suppliers and customers across the supply chain, Ontario provides a key entry point to the broader North American market. This collaboration opens doors to promising new opportunities for business growth.” Dauphinee expressed.
With an elite workforce, avant-garde research and development facilities, and a reputation for top-tier manufacturing, Ontario emerges as one of the most competitive locales for businesses seeking investment and growth opportunities.
