New York City has launched a new EV fast-charging station in the Bronx, addressing a key gap in clean transportation access. The NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) opened the public fast-charging site at the White Plains Road Municipal Parking Field, located at 2071 White Plains Road in the Bronx Park East neighborhood.
The facility features four DC fast chargers—three with 50 kW capacity and one with 175 kW—capable of charging most electric vehicles up to 80% in roughly 20 minutes. It also includes four Level 2 chargers, which can fully charge most EVs within six to eight hours.
This new charging hub in the Bronx is located in an area with one of the highest populations of Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) drivers in New York City. Around 1,000 TLC-licensed drivers reside in the area, with an additional 1,500 drivers living in surrounding neighborhoods. These drivers can access a 15% discount on charging costs by registering through the EV Connect app.

“East Bronxites will benefit significantly from these new EV chargers, and we look forward to continuing this critical work to fulfill the Adams administration’s ambitious goals,” said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez.
The new charging station supports key city initiatives, including the Green Rides Initiative, which seeks to ensure that all high-volume for-hire vehicle trips are either zero-emission or wheelchair-accessible by 2030. It also advances Mayor Adams’ PlaNYC goal of having every New Yorker within 2.5 miles of a fast charger by 2035. With this installation, the percentage of residents living near a fast charger has increased from 81% to 88%.
Among all New York City boroughs, the Bronx has the lowest number of fast-charging stations, while most existing chargers are clustered in wealthier parts of Manhattan, as well as central Brooklyn and Queens. According to the NYC Department of Transportation, the newly added Bronx site is part of a broader effort to expand fair and convenient access to EV charging. As of September 2025, New York City is home to 79,036 registered electric vehicles, representing roughly 25% of the state’s total EV count.
