Taking a step forward towards a more sustainable mode of transport, North Northamptonshire Council has augmented its electric vehicle (EV) charging network by incorporating 32 new EV points across 17 different locations.
This development, executed in conjunction with Believ, the UK’s rapidly growing EV charge point operator (CPO), is part of an ongoing initiative to provide accessible public chargers for residents lacking driveways or off-road parking. These newly installed charge points are anticipated to become functional in the forthcoming weeks.
This new addition complements the 22 existing charge points located at 12 different sites, previously installed through a collaborative effort with Believ. This enhancement will not only render the EV network more accessible to the public but will also play a pivotal role in diminishing emissions, broadening choices, and ameliorating air quality throughout the region. Each designated location will be equipped with exclusive bays designated for EV charging.
Cllr Matt Binley, the Executive Member for Highways, Travel, and Assets at North Northamptonshire Council, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the collaboration with Believ. He accentuated the necessity of a dependable and accessible EV network, given the surge in electric vehicle users. “The 32 new charging points will make a real difference to residents and mean that more people have a charging point nearby, especially important as we aim to be carbon neutral,” he remarked.
Believ specializes in the provision of charge point infrastructure for all speeds, without imposing any financial burden on local councils or taxpayers. It collaborates with various stakeholders, communities, and customers to develop and sustain an accessible, reliable, and future-proofed EV charging network. Believ, along with its strategic delivery partner Virgin Media O2, will be responsible for owning, operating, and maintaining the charge points.
Perran Moon, Interim CEO of Believ, expressed his pride in supporting the Council’s endeavor to accelerate the adoption of EVs in the region. “It is admirable to see a council so determined to speed up the shift away from petrol and diesel vehicles on our roads, and we are equally proud to expand EV infrastructure throughout the UK. We need to ensure that no one is left behind or excluded in the move towards sustainable transport and, at a time when so many are feeling the pinch, doing so at zero cost to the taxpayer or council,” he stated.
This initiative marks a significant stride towards fostering sustainable transportation and minimizing the carbon footprint in the region. It will undoubtedly incentivize more residents to embrace electric vehicles, thereby contributing to more environmentally friendly and cleaner surroundings.
