Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giants NIO and XPENG continue to expand their global reach with recent announcements of new market entries into Azerbaijan and Nepal.
NIO, a leading global smart EV company, has partnered with local distributor Green Car in Azerbaijan to make its entry into the country. This partnership, announced during the COP29 climate conference in Azerbaijan, will see Green Car oversee NIO’s distribution, service, and the development of its charging infrastructure, including battery swap stations. Additionally, NIO Houses, which are dedicated spaces for customer service and brand experience, will be established in Azerbaijan.
Deliveries of NIO vehicles in Azerbaijan are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2025. Green Car, established in 2014, is known for its role in Azerbaijan’s green technology sector and its promotion of sustainable transport solutions. The company shares NIO’s vision of transitioning to green transportation and aims to foster a cleaner, more sustainable future for the region.
Rustam Ibrahimov, COO of Green Car, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting NIO’s technological innovation and its commitment to sustainability. He added, “We look forward to jointly promoting Azerbaijan and the Caucasus’s transition to EVs.”
NIO’s expansion in Azerbaijan follows its European market entry in 2021, where it currently sells six models across 10 countries. The company has also expanded into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, beginning in the UAE. NIO’s ongoing global strategy aims to promote sustainability and contribute to cleaner air worldwide.
In a parallel development, XPENG, another Chinese EV leader, has made its debut in Nepal in collaboration with local distributor CG Motors. The official opening of XPENG’s first showroom in Kathmandu was marked by the delivery of the first 25 G6 electric cars, as well as the attendance of delegates from the Chinese Embassy. The G6, XPENG’s latest model, boasts a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, advanced autonomous driving features, and 800V super-fast charging. With a 66kWh battery, the G6 offers a range of 435 km, making it a formidable entry in Nepal’s EV market.
XPENG is already operating 20 sales and service centers in Nepal, with plans to expand to 40 locations within the year. The company also intends to increase the number of EV chargers in Nepal, aiming for 200 new installations. CG Motors, XPENG’s local partner, is committed to driving the growth of the EV market in Nepal and supporting the country’s transition to electric mobility.
With this latest expansion, XPENG is now present in over 30 countries and regions worldwide. The company continues to enhance its global footprint with its innovative vehicles and commitment to sustainability.
Both NIO and XPENG’s expansion into Azerbaijan and Nepal represent significant steps in their efforts to promote green transportation and clean energy solutions worldwide. As the global demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, these companies are positioning themselves at the forefront of the EV revolution, bringing smart, sustainable, and innovative vehicles to new markets and furthering their mission to contribute to a cleaner, greener planet.
