Seeing Machines, a driver safety tech firm headquartered in Canberra, has entered into a referral partnership with Mitsubishi Electric Europe, a collaboration focused on advancing driver safety across Europe.
The partnership comes as automakers prepare to meet the European Union’s new Vehicle General Safety Regulations (GSR), which mandate the implementation of direct driver monitoring system (DMS) technology to combat the risks associated with distracted driving.
The initiative seeks to use Mitsubishi Electric’s direct connections with truck and bus original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to promote Seeing Machines’ Guardian Generation 3 as a leading solution for meeting the advanced driver distraction warning system requirements under the EU’s General Safety Regulation.

The initial phase of the partnership will draw on existing fleet connections, including logistics, distribution, and maintenance channels, to accelerate the rollout of the Guardian Generation 3 solution.
Often described as a ‘vaccine for vehicles,’ the General Safety Regulation requires all new vehicles to include essential safety features such as emergency stop signals and systems that monitor blind spots and tire pressure. Seeing Machines states that its Guardian system, which uses sensors and cameras to track driver’s eye movements, can reduce the risk of drowsy driving in commercial fleets by more than 94%.

The development comes shortly after Mitsubishi’s U.S. division launched a six-week trial of the Guardian technology, following its agreement with Seeing Machines established in February.
“Our relationship with Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America is already delivering results, as demonstrated by the strong progress we have made in the Americas and the near-term opportunities it’s creating,” Seeing Machines CEO Paul McGlone said.
In addition, the alliance is expected to extend the Guardian Generation 3 business into sectors like rail by making use of Mitsubishi Electric Europe’s established presence in those markets.
