Maruti Suzuki has introduced the India-manufactured Jimny 5-door model in Japan, expanding its export portfolio to Suzuki Motor Corporation’s home market. The SUV, exclusively produced at the company’s Gurugram facility in Haryana, is the second India-made vehicle to enter the Japanese market this fiscal year, following the Fronx, which debuted in August 2024.
First unveiled at Auto Expo 2023 in India, the Jimny 5-door has become Maruti Suzuki’s second-highest exported model in FY 2024-25. It is currently shipped to approximately 100 countries, including key markets such as Mexico, Australia, and South Africa.
Maruti Suzuki’s Managing Director & CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, highlighted that the launch underscores the company’s strong manufacturing capabilities and reinforces its ‘Make-in-India for the world’ initiative. The new variant complements the existing 3-door Jimny already available in Japan.
The Jimny brand has built a strong global presence over five decades, with Suzuki selling more than 3.5 million units across 199 countries and regions. The decision to manufacture the 5-door variant in India reflects Suzuki’s strategy to meet rising global demand for the off-road SUV.
In India’s broader automotive export landscape, Maruti Suzuki continues to lead as the country’s top passenger vehicle exporter. The company shipped over 323,000 vehicles in 2024, securing a 43.5% share of India’s total passenger vehicle exports. The positive reception of the Fronx in Japan further reinforces India’s growing role as a global manufacturing hub.
