Heavy-duty transportation is entering a transformative era, with electric trucks spearheading the shift. At the forefront stands the MAN eTGX, which recently clinched first place in the world’s inaugural comparison test for heavy-duty electric trucks, affirming its leadership in sustainable transport.
Expert journalists from the esteemed trade magazine ‘Trucker’ conducted a rigorous test, awarding the MAN eTGX an impressive 568 points. The vehicle’s low unladen weight, balanced drive system, and exceptional comfort set it apart, earning it recognition as an outstanding overall package. Its sophisticated operating concept further cemented its status as the top choice among commercial vehicle professionals.
Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member at MAN Truck & Bus SE, praised the achievement, noting that the battery-electric version of the MAN TGX exemplifies the company’s commitment to excellence. The eTGX, along with its counterpart, the MAN eTGS, features a modular battery configuration. This allows customers to choose from three to six battery packs, enabling precise vehicle configuration for various applications, whether inner-city deliveries, regional supply chains, or long-distance transport.
Expanding the eTruck Portfolio
The MAN eTruck lineup demonstrates exceptional adaptability. New chassis versions offer unprecedented customization, with options covering wheelbases, cab versions, engine performance classes, and more. With over a million possible configurations, the MAN eTruck portfolio provides tailored solutions for a wide range of industries.
‘Trucker’ magazine’s comparison test focused on a volume semitrailer tractor designed for long-distance transport. The tested eTGX, featuring a low semitrailer height of approximately 950 mm, facilitates the transport of volume trailers with an internal height of 3 metres. Equipped with six nickel-manganese-cobalt battery packs, the eTGX delivers 534 kWh of gross electrical energy, distributed via an automated four-speed gearbox. This setup channels 330 kW and 1150 Newton metres of torque to the rear axle, showcasing the eTGX’s formidable capabilities.
Driving the Future of eMobility
MAN’s 360-degree eMobility Consulting service is key to guiding customers through the transition to electric vehicles. The service supports optimal vehicle selection, cost optimization, route analysis, fleet efficiency, and charging infrastructure design. This comprehensive approach ensures a seamless integration of electric trucks into existing fleets, enhancing both sustainability and operational efficiency.
While the MAN eTGX and similar electric trucks prove their potential, a critical challenge remains: the insufficient nationwide charging infrastructure. This issue, urging political leaders in Germany and Europe to accelerate the development of a robust charging network. The vehicles are ready; what is missing is the infrastructure to support them.
