South Korea’s leading mobile camera module maker, LG Innotek, aims to dominate the automotive sensing market by generating 2 trillion won ($1.4 billion) in annual sales by 2030. Leveraging its expertise in mobile camera modules, the company focuses on high-performance light detection and ranging (LiDAR) systems and advanced automotive camera modules.
CEO Moon Hyuk-soo announced, “We will leverage our mobile camera module-developing expertise to foster our automotive sensing solution business as another global leading sector that generates 2 trillion won in annual sales by 2030.”
LG Innotek accelerates its entry into the LiDAR market with a high-performance LiDAR unit directly under the CEO’s supervision. LiDAR technology detects three-dimensionality and measures distances with precision, crucial for autonomous driving systems. The growing need for LiDARs per vehicle aligns with advancements in autonomous driving.
Precedence Research & Consulting projects the global self-driving market to reach $2.35 trillion by 2032, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 35%. Yole Intelligence forecasts the LiDAR systems market to expand to $11.2 billion by 2030, up from $2.1 billion in 2025.
Last year, LG Innotek acquired 77 LiDAR-related patents from a US self-driving startup, adding to its portfolio of about 300 patents, reinforcing its leadership in LiDAR technology.
LG Innotek is set to lead the automotive camera module market, with S&P Global forecasting a CAGR of 7%, reaching $10.03 billion by 2030. The company recently acquired a stake in AOE Optronics, a subsidiary of Taiwan-based Asia Optical, enhancing its competitive edge.
AOE, known for its technology in manufacturing aspherical glass lenses, a critical component for high-resolution cameras, serves as a strategic partner. Demand for these lenses rises with the global push for autonomous driving technologies. To cement its leadership, LG Innotek developed an innovative camera module with a direct heating system for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Supporting its growth plans, LG Innotek expands its production capabilities globally. New automotive camera module production lines are being added to its automotive electronic parts plant in San Juan del Rio, Mexico, set to commence mass production late next year. This expansion ensures LG Innotek meets the rising demand for advanced automotive sensing solutions.
