LG Display has unveiled the start of mass production of the company’s expansive 40-inch ‘pillar-to-pillar’ (P2P) display for vehicles. The advanced screen is set to debut in the Afeela, the first sedan from Sony Honda Mobility. The innovative P2P display spans the entire width of the vehicle’s interior, extending from one front pillar to the other.
The pioneering pillar-to-pillar display from LG Display stretches across the entire dashboard, extending from the driver’s side A-pillar to the passenger’s side. As the first company to bring ultra-wide automotive displays into mass production, LG Display is positioning this technology as a crucial component for software-defined vehicles (SDV). The screen’s expansive design marks an evolution in interface technology.

The P2P display transforms in-car entertainment by providing user convenience options to both driver and passengers simultaneously. Its broad screen eliminates the need to switch between screens, allowing users to access multiple functions at once, such as essential driving information, navigation, entertainment options like movies, games, and climate controls.
Switchable Privacy Mode (SPM) viewing angle control technology has been implemented to help the driver remain focused. This feature, introduced by LG Display, allows front passengers to enjoy entertainment content while concealing it from the driver’s view, preventing distraction. The selective viewing angle technology ensures that multimedia content remains visible only to the passenger, maintaining driver focus on the road. SPM stands out by delivering ultra-high-definition resolution while maintaining control over the viewing angle.

The display incorporates dimming technology, which cuts down on power usage and heat output, particularly beneficial for electric vehicles’ efficiency. The ultra-large screen also streamlines the vehicle’s interior design by replacing physical controls with digital interfaces, opening new possibilities for future mobility design.
Sony Honda Mobility’s debut sedan, Afeela, will showcase the 40-inch P2P display as a centerpiece of its technology. This next-generation electric vehicle merges Sony’s advanced IT and entertainment technologies with Honda’s manufacturing expertise, delivering advanced AI driving assistance and superior in-car entertainment.
