Lexus has revived the iconic LFA name for a new electric supercar that’s built on Toyota’s upcoming GR GT platform, powered by a V8 engine.
Toyota’s luxury division showcased its concept for a next-generation battery-electric super-GT at last year’s Pebble Beach event in California and has now announced that it will carry the revered LFA badge. According to the company, the LFA name isn’t limited to internal-combustion vehicles, allowing the electric successor to inherit the title of its famed V10 forerunner.
The electric LFA, still officially a concept, is being developed in parallel with the Toyota GR GT, which was unveiled as a 641bhp, V8-driven super-GT and is expected to reach the market in 2027.

The LFA will use the GR GT’s aluminum-heavy architecture and take advantage of the design flexibility offered by an electric drivetrain. It will feature a completely unique exterior design and a sleek, minimalist cabin focused on digital controls and driver involvement.
Its race‑inspired steering yoke hints that Lexus will equip it with the same steer‑by‑wire system recently debuted in the RZ.
Lexus says its goal is to build ‘a BEV sports car that surpasses customer expectations’ and to ‘deepen the connection between driver and machine for an entirely new level of driving enjoyment.’

Measuring 4.7m in length and 2m in width, the electric LFA closely matches the proportions of the Aston Martin DB12 and Bentley Continental GT. However, with a height of just under 1.2m, it sits noticeably lower—implying Lexus has chosen an alternative battery layout rather than the typical under‑floor placement used in most EVs.
The company has yet to share any further details about the two-seat model and, unlike the V8 version, has not given a projected release date. However, Toyota has indicated that its first solid-state battery will debut in a ‘high-power’ EV within the next couple of years, and the electric LFA is a strong contender to receive it.
