At a sophisticated gathering within the Lamborghini Lounge NYC, located in Manhattan’s Chelsea Arts District, Lamborghini revealed the Urus SE, marking the brand’s initial venture into plug-in hybrid technology. Esteemed clientele, select VIPs, and media figures attended the exclusive premiere.
Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s Chairman and CEO, spearheaded the event with Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer, and Federico Foschini, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer. Winkelmann expressed pride in the launch, particularly in the American market where SUV demand remains robust.
“The Urus SE epitomizes our brand’s DNA and philosophy, excelling in both driving enjoyment and dynamic performance. SUVs are in high demand in the U.S. market, so as we continue down the path to electrification, it is vital that we provide our customers with a fun-to-drive hybrid that can also meet their everyday needs,” Winkelmann noted.
Presented first at the Beijing Auto Show on April 24, the Urus SE combines a potent twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine with a 25-kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering a formidable 789 horsepower. This powertrain enables acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds and a maximum speed of 194 mph. The vehicle’s advanced electric motor also supports over 37 miles of purely electric driving, aligning with Lamborghini’s push toward sustainable luxury mobility.
The launch forms part of Lamborghini’s broader Direzione Cor Tauri 2.0 strategy, which charts a course for the electrification of its fleet and a reduction in carbon emissions. This roadmap began with the introduction of the Revuelto in March 2023 and will include a new High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) to replace the Huracán by the end of 2024.
In 2023, Lamborghini set a new record in its largest market, delivering 3,465 vehicles across North America. The Urus model notably saw its sales climb from 5,367 units in 2022 to 6,087 in 2023, demonstrating its increasing appeal.
Lamborghini plans to begin delivering the Urus SE by the end of 2024, reinforcing its trajectory towards reducing environmental impact while maintaining the exhilarating performance synonymous with its name.
