Karsan, a leader in the electrification and autonomous evolution of public transportation, continues to push the boundaries of innovation, particularly across Europe. The company’s latest achievement, the Autonomous e-ATAK, developed with ADASTEC, stands as the world’s first Level-4 driverless public transport vehicle on a designated route.
After successful deployments in the USA, Norway, Romania, the Netherlands, Türkiye, France, and Finland, this cutting-edge vehicle is set to revolutionize transport in Switzerland.
The Autonomous e-ATAK, scheduled to operate on a 2.2-kilometer route in Arbon, will serve as Switzerland’s inaugural automated bus. It will showcase the vehicle’s ability to deliver an eco-friendly and efficient travel experience at a speed of 30 km/h. Notably, this vehicle marks a first in European urban public transport and succeeded in navigating through a tunnel—an unprecedented feat for autonomous vehicles.
Karsan CEO Okan Baş emphasized the vehicle’s compact design, ensuring seamless navigation through Arbon’s narrow streets without disrupting the city’s historic ambiance. Baş expressed pride in Karsan’s pioneering role in Switzerland’s shift towards driverless public transport and underscored the company’s growing presence in the Swiss market, with plans to deliver 23 electric vehicles to a major operator.
ADASTEC CEO Dr. Ali Peker highlighted the profound impact of the collaboration with Karsan, which has already achieved significant milestones in public transport across Europe and the USA.
The Autonomous e-ATAK, with over 80,000 kilometers of autonomous driving experience and more than 30,000 passengers transported, continues to set new industry standards. Equipped with advanced LiDAR sensors, radar technology, RGB cameras, and thermal imaging systems, the vehicle operates at Level-4 autonomy, flawlessly executing tasks such as traffic navigation and stop docking, regardless of weather or time of day.
