Jaguar has announced a pause in vehicle sales in the United Kingdom as it accelerates its transition toward becoming an all-electric luxury car brand by 2026. This move aligns with the automaker’s ‘Reimagine’ strategy, introduced four years ago, which envisions Jaguar’s evolution into a fully electric marque.
While electric models are yet to make a full debut, Jaguar has stopped selling vehicles with conventional engines in the UK. However, Jaguar vehicles remain available for purchase outside its home market.
Several models, including the Jaguar E-Pace, XE, XF, and F-Type, were previously removed from the UK lineup, and now the F-Pace has also been withdrawn. Although these SUVs are still manufactured for export markets, the company has indicated that their production may eventually cease as it pivots entirely to electric vehicles.
Acquired by Tata Motors in 2008, Jaguar aims to elevate its market position. No longer focused on direct competition with brands like Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW, Jaguar now aspires to rival ultra-luxury names such as Bentley and Aston Martin.
Reports suggest that the brand’s first electric vehicle will be positioned as a competitor to the Porsche Taycan, followed by an electric SUV to challenge the Bentley Bentayga. Additionally, Jaguar is planning an ultra-luxurious electric sedan within the next decade.
A Glimpse of Jaguar’s Future Plans
As part of its upcoming electric lineup, Jaguar is set to unveil a concept GT four-door model in the United States. The production version of this model is expected to carry a starting price of approximately £100,000 (around $130,000).
Rawdon Glover, Jaguar’s Managing Director, recently shared that the transition to a fully electric lineup has faced challenges but is ultimately aimed at moving the brand into the ultra-luxury EV segment. Jaguar plans to reduce overall sales volumes, focusing instead on high-margin, high-value models.
Under the new strategy, Jaguar will refrain from selling any models in the UK until 2026, as it prepares to launch its first electric model in its home market. This decision marks a significant step in Jaguar’s journey toward becoming a leader in the high-end electric vehicle market.
