Omoda and Jaecoo, though relatively new in the automotive world, are diversifying their crossover lineup to cater to a broader range of customer preferences. During the 2024 Omoda Jaecoo International User Summit, the brands introduced the Jaecoo J5, an entry-level SUV designed not only for urban youth but also incorporating pet-friendly features.
The Jaecoo J5, classified as a B-segment SUV, is comparable in size to models like the Omoda 5, Geely Coolray, and GAC GS3 Emzoom. Its boxy design is inspired by the larger Jaecoo J7, delivering a striking presence despite its compact size.
Inside, the J5 offers premium features such as a panoramic glass roof, a large portrait-oriented infotainment system, and a digital instrument cluster integrated into the dashboard. The SUV’s interior is finished with two-tone leather upholstery, enhancing its premium feel. However, the standout feature is its pet-friendly focus.
Omoda and Jaecoo have gone beyond standard SUV design by creating a comfortable and healthy environment for pets. The J5 is equipped with extended seats, an A/C filtration system that blocks pet hair, and an antibacterial health device to prevent bacterial growth. Additionally, it includes pet-feeding devices and boarding steps, catering to pet owners who frequently travel with their furry companions.
Under the hood, the Jaecoo J5 is powered by a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder TGDi engine, producing 195 PS and 290 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed wet-type DCT. Buyers can choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, and like the larger J7, the J5 offers off-road driving modes for adventure enthusiasts. The SUV can tow up to 1,250 kg and carry 75 kg on its roof rack, further enhancing its outdoor capabilities.
While local availability in the Philippines has not yet been confirmed, Omoda and Jaecoo plan to introduce the J5 to international markets by 2025, aiming to appeal to a diverse customer base, including pet owners and outdoor adventurers.
