Infineon Technologies AG has finalized its acquisition of Marvell Technology’s Automotive Ethernet business, following the transaction agreement announced in April 2025 and subsequent regulatory approvals. The deal enhances Infineon’s system expertise for software-defined vehicles and strengthens its leadership in automotive microcontrollers.
“This transaction significantly reinforces our number one position in automotive semiconductors and strengthens our strategy of profitable growth,” said Jochen Hanebeck, CEO of Infineon. He added that the expanded portfolio will help drive the shift to software-defined vehicles and open new opportunities in areas such as humanoid robotics. The acquisition also brings several hundred skilled employees into the company.

Automotive Ethernet enables low-latency, high-bandwidth data transfer between components like microcontrollers, processors, and sensors, making it crucial for modern vehicle architectures. The technology also holds potential for adjacent fields such as robotics. By combining Marvell’s Brightlane Automotive Ethernet portfolio, featuring PHY transceivers, switches, and bridges supporting speeds from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps, with Infineon’s microcontroller and system expertise, the company aims to deliver more comprehensive solutions to customers.
Matt Murphy, Chairman and CEO of Marvell, praised the team’s achievements in establishing a leadership position in Automotive Ethernet through innovation and partnerships, expressing confidence that Infineon has the scale and reach to unlock the business’s full potential.

The acquired business has a design-win pipeline valued at around $4 billion by 2030, with projected 2025 revenues between $225 million and $250 million, and a gross margin of about 60%. The purchase price of $2.5 billion will be financed through existing funds and additional debt capital, with bank financing secured.
Infineon will consolidate the new operations into a dedicated ‘Ethernet Solutions’ business line within its Automotive division and plans to expand the unit through innovation and customer-focused development. The acquisition further strengthens Infineon’s US presence, including its research and development activities.
