Volkswagen has just unveiled its ID. Cross Concept electric car at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, ahead of the show’s official opening. The concept previews the next addition to the brand’s all-electric ID family, with the production model expected to launch in 2026.
The ID. Cross signals Volkswagen’s strategic move into the fast-growing, affordable electric SUV segment, reinforcing the company’s commitment to electrification. Positioned as the all-electric successor to the popular T-Cross, the ID. Cross builds on the legacy of its internal combustion counterpart, which has already secured a strong foothold in the compact SUV market.
The ID. Cross is one of four compact electric vehicles that the Volkswagen Group plans to roll out over the next 18 months, all built on its MEB Entry platform. It will launch alongside the ID. Polo, Cupra Raval, and Skoda Epiq.

Volkswagen has introduced a fresh design philosophy for the Cross, called ‘Pure Positive,’ which blends elements of stability, charm, and understated nods to the brand’s heritage. Measuring 163.8 inches in length and 72.4 inches in width, the electric SUV shares its dimensions with the T-Cross but features a sleeker, more contemporary look.
The interior of the ID. Cross closely resembles that of the more compact ID. Polo, showcasing Volkswagen’s shift away from the glossy plastics seen in earlier ID models. In the place, nearly every visible surface is covered in light-colored fabric, creating a bright, relaxed, lounge-inspired atmosphere. The dashboard has been simplified into a single horizontal strip stretching across the cabin, interrupted only by two digital screens: an 11-inch driver display and a 13-inch central infotainment touchscreen. Traditional physical controls have been minimized to a slim row of touch-sensitive buttons for climate functions.

Built on the MEB+ platform, Volkswagen’s updated modular electric architecture, the ID. Cross draws its power from a single front-mounted electric motor delivering 208 horsepower (155 kW). It’s expected to achieve a WLTP-rated range of up to 261 miles (420 kilometers), with a top speed capped at 109 mph (175 km/h). The SUV can tow up to 2,646 pounds (1,200 kilograms) on a braked trailer at an 8% incline and supports a tow ball load of 165 pounds (75 kilograms), making it suitable for transporting two electric bikes. Volkswagen also notes that upcoming MEB+ software updates will enhance driver assistance systems like Travel Assist features previously exclusive to higher-end models.
Volkswagen will launch the production version of the ID. Cross in the summer of 2026. It will be part of the brand’s lineup of four budget-friendly electric vehicles, joining the ID. Polo and Polo GTI, with the ID. EVERY1 scheduled to follow in 2027.
