Responding to a surge in thefts targeting specific Hyundai models lacking push-button ignitions and immobilizing anti-theft devices, Hyundai Motor America is partnering with local authorities and organizations in St. Louis County.
The joint venture with St. Louis County, St. Louis County Police, the City of Jennings, and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis will offer complimentary anti-theft software upgrades to impacted Hyundai owners on September 9 and 10 at the Urban League parking lot, 8960 Jennings Station Road.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to supplement Hyundai’s national network of dealerships and promote the installation of Hyundai’s free anti-theft software upgrade for customers still affected by this trend, which has been fueled by social media. Expert technicians will be on-site to complete the software upgrade, which is expected to take less than one hour.
David VandeLinde, vice president of after-sales at Hyundai Motor America, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “Partnering with the community to address the needs of affected residents that we know need the software solution is a fantastic opportunity. We firmly believe it takes a village to realize this. Everyone has come together to join forces to ensure the success of this event, benefiting the local community.”
Michael P. McMillan, President and CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, echoed this sentiment. “This is a tremendous weight lifted for many residents concerned about the recent vehicle thefts. We appreciate Hyundai for partnering with the St. Louis County Police and our team at the Jennings Empowerment Center to provide this service and do so at no cost to the vehicle owner. It’s a great collaboration.”
To maximize the number of vehicles receiving the upgrade, the mobile service center will not offer other vehicle services during this time. Representatives from Hyundai will assist customers requiring additional services by scheduling appointments at local Hyundai dealerships.
Previously, Hyundai Motor America established a mobile service center at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., in collaboration with Mayor Muriel Bowser and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith. The event attracted over 1,150 vehicles and aimed to strengthen Hyundai’s nationwide network of dealerships and promote the installation of the free anti-theft software upgrade for affected customers.
