Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced its highest-ever annual domestic sales figures for 2024, registering 6,05,433 units sold. The company’s total sales for the year, including exports, reached an impressive 7,64,119 units.
In December alone, HMIL recorded total sales of 55,078 units, comprising 42,208 units sold domestically and 12,870 units exported.
Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer at HMIL, attributed this milestone to the company’s ability to maintain momentum despite industry challenges. Garg highlighted the successful introduction of the innovative Hy-CNG Duo technology, which significantly boosted the contribution of CNG vehicles to domestic sales. In 2024, CNG sales accounted for 13.1% of HMIL’s domestic sales, compared to 10.4% in 2023.
The Hyundai Creta model played a pivotal role in the company’s success, achieving its highest-ever yearly domestic sales of 1,86,919 units. The Creta’s performance reinforced Hyundai’s position as a leader in the SUV segment. Garg expressed optimism about the forthcoming launch of the CRETA Electric, stating it would further enhance the vehicle’s appeal as the ‘Undisputed, Ultimate SUV.’
Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M) reported robust sales for December, achieving a total of 69,768 vehicles, including exports, representing a 16% year-on-year growth. The company’s SUV segment saw domestic sales of 41,424 units, an 18% increase, with overall SUV sales, including exports, reaching 42,958 vehicles. Additionally, M&M recorded 19,502 domestic sales in its commercial vehicle category.
Veejay Nakra, President of M&M’s Automotive Division, highlighted the company’s accomplishment of becoming the only Indian auto manufacturer to attain world leader status in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the auto sector. The DJSI ranking evaluates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance across over 13,000 companies globally. Nakra noted that M&M ranked first among all global auto original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), underscoring its leadership in sustainability.
