Hyundai Motor Group has entered into a strategic partnership with Toray Industries, a global frontrunner in carbon fiber and composite materials, to drive forward the next wave of mobility innovations. This alliance is set to transform automotive and aviation industries, where demand for materials that are both lightweight and strong is critical.
Toray Industries, headquartered in Japan, stands out for its leadership in carbon fiber technology, crucial to sectors that prioritize durability alongside minimal weight. The partnership was cemented at a ceremony attended by notable leaders from both companies. Toray Industries was represented by Akihiro Nikkaku, Chairman; Mitsuo Ohya, President; and Young-kwan Lee, Chairman of Toray Advanced Materials Korea. Hyundai’s delegation included Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company; Ho Sung Song, President and CEO of Kia; and Chang Song, President and Head of Advanced Vehicle Platform Division.
Toray President Mitsuo Ohya expressed enthusiasm about the venture, emphasizing Toray’s commitment to evolving material technologies that keep pace with automotive industry trends. “Our collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group strengthens our pursuit of innovative solutions tailored to the needs of modern transport,” he stated.
Hyundai aims to integrate Toray’s advanced material technologies into its development pipeline, particularly focusing on enhancing their electric vehicles and software-defined vehicles (SDVs). Chang Song from Hyundai detailed the strategic merits of the partnership. “By combining our automotive expertise with Toray Group’s material technology prowess, we aim to become the first mover and gain a competitive edge in the global market,” he remarked.
