The maiden motorcycle from the Hero-Harley alliance, the Harley-Davidson X 440, is slated for a July 4, 2023 launch in India, carving a new trajectory for the traditionally cruiser-focused Harley-Davidson.
Unveiling the production-ready images of the X 440, Harley-Davidson confirmed that the motorcycle eschews the traditional laid-back cruiser aesthetic. Instead, it adopts a cooler, roadster style reminiscent of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Harley’s XR-1200. Its old-school charm blends with contemporary features, creating an appealing mix for modern riders.
The X 440 boasts impressive ergonomics with a flat handlebar, neutral footpeg positions, and a scooped-out seat ensuring an upright perch. Detailing is meticulous with a circular LED headlight, rear-view mirrors, indicators, and a digital instrument pod, likely featuring Bluetooth connectivity. Despite its proportional appearance, the muffler could have benefitted from a sportier design.
Beneath its stylish exterior, the X 440 houses a 440 cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine with a chain drive. The specifics on power and torque will be disclosed as the launch approaches, but a 6-speed gearbox is anticipated. Furthermore, the bike offers dual-channel ABS as standard, an 18-inch front wheel, a 17-inch rear wheel with MRF tyres, a single downtube frame, and adjustable dual shock absorbers.
Priced between Rs. 2.5 lakh and Rs. 3 lakh, the X 440 enters as the most economical Harley ever sold in India. It’s set to rival Royal Enfield’s and Honda’s 350 cc motorcycles and the debut model from the Bajaj-Triumph partnership. Further details will be revealed as we approach the launch date.
