General Motors (GM) has rebranded its BrightDrop electric commercial vans under the Chevrolet name. This decision aimed at amplifying the reach and accessibility of these cutting-edge vehicles through Chevrolet’s vast commercial vehicle network.
Since its introduction at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2021, BrightDrop has played a major role in GM’s push towards sustainable transportation. The integration into Chevrolet’s lineup is expected to further accelerate its impact, leveraging Chevrolet’s extensive commercial sales and service infrastructure. With a GM-estimated range of 272 miles combining city and highway, these electric vans feature advanced safety technologies that prioritize driver alertness and protection.
This rebranding move will provide BrightDrop customers with enhanced access to one of the industry’s most expansive commercial networks, fostering new growth opportunities for the brand. Chevrolet dealerships, upon meeting specific commercial EV requirements, will gain the opportunity to sell and service BrightDrop vans, enhancing fleet uptime and operational efficiency for commercial customers.
Scott Bell, Chevrolet’s vice president, emphasized the significance of this strategic alignment, stating, “With the addition of BrightDrop to the Chevrolet lineup, we are combining advanced EV technology with the dependability and widespread accessibility that only Chevrolet can offer. This move strengthens our EV offerings and reaffirms our role as a leading commercial brand that enables businesses large and small to get work done.”
The BrightDrop 400 and 600 models, known for their state-of-the-art technology, continue to be produced at GM’s CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. These models are engineered to boost operational efficiency, reduce emissions, and optimize service and delivery operations. Sandor Piszar, GM Envolve’s vice president, highlighted the broader implications of this transition, noting that the integration under Chevrolet will widen access to these advanced tools, helping more customers achieve their productivity and sustainability objectives.
Kristian Aquilina, GM Canada President, underscored the importance of this development, stating, “GM Canada is proud that our team at CAMI Assembly will now produce BrightDrop commercial EVs under the Chevrolet brand. This branding evolution is a testament to the potential GM and Chevrolet see for BrightDrop in the electric fleet market, and to CAMI’s production capabilities as Canada’s first large-scale EV manufacturer.”
