German auto supplier Linde + Wiemann has concluded its partnership with Türkiye’s Opsan, citing global challenges in the automotive sector. The decision marks the end of a collaboration that significantly influenced Türkiye’s automotive landscape.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Turkish Competition Authority approved the transfer of Linde + Wiemann’s shares in Linde Opsan Otomotiv to the Ersu family, a long-time partner. The Ersu family’s KEB Metal Investment now holds full control of the company.
Opsan, one of Türkiye’s leading automotive suppliers, has been instrumental in producing sheet metal and welded assembly parts for the automotive sector. Established in 1963 in Istanbul, the company initially focused on manufacturing pressure vessels and sheet metal products before transitioning to the automotive sector in 1976, producing chrome-plated bumpers for Oyak-Renault.
In 2010, Linde + Wiemann partnered with the Ersu family to form Linde Opsan. The joint venture launched mass production in 2012, supplying components for projects like the Ford Tourneo and Ford Transit. With facilities spanning 25,000 square meters and a workforce of 475 employees, Linde Opsan produces 130 million spot welds and 55 million fastener welds annually. Over the years, it has collaborated with prominent brands, including Türkiye’s domestic electric vehicle (EV) Togg, Ford Otosan, TOFAS, Stellantis, and Magna.
Linde + Wiemann, founded in 1939 in Dillenburg, Germany, has a rich history in the automotive sector. The company operates production facilities in several countries, including Spain, the Czech Republic, Hungary, China, South Africa, and Türkiye. Despite ending its partnership with Opsan, the company continues to maintain a strong international presence.
