Geely Auto Group officially opened the Geely Safety Center on Friday, setting a new global standard for automotive testing.
The facility covers 45,000 sqm and marks an initial investment of over 2 billion RMB. The center is designed to advance innovation in safety technologies and meet the complex requirements for electric vehicles.
The Safety Center is built to address all aspects of modern automotive safety. In addition to upholding strict protocols for high‑speed crash evaluations and pedestrian protection, the facility introduces a ‘comprehensive safety’ framework designed for intelligent vehicles.
The assessment combines conventional physical testing with advanced digital simulations and environmental evaluations.

Key capabilities of the Center include:
- Comprehensive Testing: Extends beyond crash evaluations to cover cybersecurity and new‑energy powertrain safety.
- Active Safety Simulations: Conducts sophisticated scenarios for driver assistance systems.
- New Energy Safety: Features specialized zones to examine battery durability and electrified powertrain performance.
- Cybersecurity: Offers CNAS-certified testing for chips, firmware, data encryption, and OTA updates against multiple attack vectors.
The facility also achieved five Guinness World Records, notably for the world’s largest automotive safety laboratory and the longest indoor crash‑test track.
Over the past decade, Geely has poured more than 250 billion RMB into research and development.

The new center stands as a key pillar of the ongoing commitment, blending global best practices with the company’s expanding internal R&D capabilities.
“Safety has always been Geely Auto Group’s top priority over the past 30 years. We’ve always aimed to exceed national and regional standards to set new benchmarks in safety, which is a benefit to everyone in the industry and consumers globally,” said Jerry Gan, CEO of Geely Auto Group.
In addition to supporting internal research, the center serves as a platform for industry collaboration. Geely is deepening partnerships with institutions such as the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) and Tsinghua University.
In 2024, Geely Auto Group’s brands sold more than 2.17 million vehicles, achieving a 32% year-over-year growth.
