Ford Motors, the legendary American automobile maker, is capitalizing on advanced production facilities, streamlined operations, and cost efficiencies, coupled with improved battery raw material pricing, to provide a more affordable price point for all versions of the F-150 Lightning electric truck, making strides towards reaching a wider audience in the burgeoning EV market.
To facilitate this, the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center situated in Michigan is undergoing a temporary shutdown for significant upgrades. The aim is to triple the annual production rate to an impressive 150,000 F-150 Lightning trucks, starting in the fall.
These plant enhancements, combined with favorable shifts in battery raw material prices and ongoing efforts to scale production while reducing costs, are key contributors to the price reduction across the F-150 Lightning range. The manufacturer is optimistic about delivering a more cost-effective, custom-built F-150 Lightning truck to its customers as early as October.
Marin Gjaja, chief customer officer of, Ford Model e, stated, “Shortly after launching the F-150 Lightning, rapidly rising material costs, supply constraints, and other factors drove up the cost of the EV truck for Ford and our customers. We’ve continued to work in the background to improve accessibility and affordability to help to lower prices for our customers and shorten the wait times for their new F-150 Lightning.”
As part of their nationwide summer sales event, Ford is now offering a $1,000 bonus to retail customers who choose to custom-build their XLT, Lariat, or Platinum truck either through their dealer or Ford’s website between July 6 and July 31. Ford Credit has also launched an appealing offer of a low-interest rate of 1.9 percent APR for a 36-month term for qualified buyers.
The 2023 MotorTrend Truck of the Year, the F-150 Lightning, is also eligible for up to $7,500 in consumer and commercial EV tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act, further enhancing its attractiveness to potential buyers.
From next year onwards, owners of the F-150 Lightning will have the privilege of accessing more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada. Ford Pro Charging solutions will also be available for commercial customers, ensuring their F-150 Lightning is always ready for work, whether charged at home or at their workplace.
Ford’s bold pricing strategy underscores its commitment to expanding the reach of electric vehicles, potentially triggering a significant shift in the industry’s perspective on EV affordability.
