Ferrari has selected Michelin as the exclusive tire supplier for its new Ferrari F80 supercar. Michelin has developed a bespoke tire, the K1 MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup 2 R, specifically designed to match the high-performance demands of this exceptional vehicle.
Drawing inspiration from the renowned Pilot Sport Cup 2 R range, Michelin engineered this tire to push the boundaries of dry surface performance, boosting its expertise in cutting-edge engineering.
The K1 tire is Michelin’s most advanced offering for Ferrari, taking only 15 months to develop. It features two industry-first innovations, utilizing new motorsport technologies and processes.
In addition, the tire boasts the widest dimensions Michelin has ever produced for Ferrari, with the front tires measuring 285 x 30 R20 and the rear tires a staggering 345 x 30 R21 – a size reserved exclusively for supercars.
Michelin’s advanced digital capabilities played a pivotal role in the development of the K1. The company utilized proprietary simulation systems to model the tire’s behavior in extreme conditions. These patented algorithms, protected by encryption, are some of the most advanced in the industry, enabling groundbreaking virtual research.
To optimize production, Michelin launched a virtual industrial development program alongside the tire design. The F80 tires are manufactured using Michelin’s exclusive C3M machines, which offer unmatched precision, producing tires with an accuracy of one-tenth of a millimeter.
This level of craftsmanship brings each tire into the realm of high fashion, ensuring that the Ferrari F80 is equipped with the finest in tire technology. Ferrari’s choice of Michelin represents the supercar’s exceptional performance and highlights the tire manufacturer’s attentiveness to innovation in the high-performance automotive sector.
