DHL Supply Chain establishes an ambitious Green Transport Policy, setting a sustainability benchmark in logistics. This policy, aligning with the company’s Sustainability Roadmap, signals a major shift towards decarbonizing transport solutions.
This Green Transport Policy outlines strategies for significant carbon emission reductions, crucial for minimizing DHL Supply Chain’s environmental impact. Key to this initiative is the selection of optimal green transport alternatives, factoring in regional availability, infrastructure, and cost.
The plan includes converting around 2,000 vehicles from conventional combustion engines to eco-friendly options like hydrotreated vegetable oil, biogas, electric, and hydrogen power. With a planned investment of 200 million euros in the next three years for alternative fuel sources, DHL aims to cut nearly 300,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. This effort parallels the carbon offset of 2,200 trucks traveling 500 kilometers daily over a year.
Oscar de Bok, CEO of DHL Supply Chain, emphasizes the policy’s impact. By targeting 94% of the fleet’s emissions from 17 key countries, the company aims for a 30% sustainable drive and fuel mix in its fleet by 2026. This Green Transport Policy not only creates a new benchmark for the industry but also echoes its pledge to future generations. DHL Supply Chain encourages its customers to participate in this eco-friendly transformation, enhancing their supply chains’ sustainability.
Under this policy, DHL Supply Chain is set to roll out a significant biomethane truck fleet in Ireland and has committed to a long-term investment in biomethane energy. More projects and announcements are expected, bolstering DHL’s sustainable logistics leadership.
DHL Supply Chain’s Green Transport Policy stands as a profound commitment to environmental sustainability and carbon emission reduction. By leading the logistics industry towards greener practices, DHL not only revolutionizes its operations but also paves the way for a more sustainable global logistics landscape. This initiative marks a critical step towards a greener, more sustainable future.
