Daimler Truck has entered into a partnership with the Senegal government and Global Truck Systems (GTS) to launch a truck assembly facility in the country.
The partnership, established through a formal letter of intent, outlines Daimler Truck’s role in supplying vehicle components for local assembly, with production expected to commence in 2026. Under the agreement, Daimler will serve as the sole provider of completely knocked down (CKD) kits for the truck assembly process.
The facility will assemble multiple Mercedes-Benz truck series, customized for both government agencies—including the Ministry of Defense, fire services, and law enforcement—and private sector operations, such as waste management, construction, logistics, and transport.
A joint venture formed by the government and GTS will oversee the project and handle the on-site truck assembly.

“With this project, our vehicles will enter the Senegalese market in close coordination with the German Federal Government,” said Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks CEO Franziska Cusumano.
As part of the agreement, the Senegalese government is backing the project by providing industrial land, offering tax and customs exemptions, and supporting the training of the local workforce. The initiative is part of the nation’s wider strategy to boost domestic manufacturing and address increasing demand for mobility. Germany’s Foreign Office is also supporting the assembly plant.

Global Truck Systems (GTS) will lead the establishment and management of the facility, handling tasks such as staffing and training, designing production infrastructure, assembling vehicles from CKD kits, and outfitting them with specialized components like container frames. Furthermore, GTS will manage the plant’s sales operations.
Daimler Truck will maintain a dependable supply chain, uphold stringent quality standards, and oversee the transfer of technical expertise. Additionally, the company will offer sustained service support to guarantee the excellence of vehicles assembled locally. The initiative is projected to generate skilled employment and strengthen the region’s industrial capacity.
