Daimler Truck has unveiled plans to develop Europe’s largest semi-public charging network for battery-electric trucks, aiming to address a critical gap in the continent’s charging infrastructure and accelerate the transition to climate-neutral freight transport.
With fewer than 1,000 high-capacity charging stations currently available for heavy-duty vehicles across Europe—far short of the estimated 35,000 needed by 2030 to meet EU climate targets—Daimler Truck’s initiative seeks to add more than 3,000 fast-charging points by the end of the decade.
The project, part of Daimler Truck’s TruckCharge program, is scheduled to launch in the third quarter of 2025. It introduces a semi-public model that allows TruckCharge customers and depot operators to open their own charging stations for external, paid use during off-peak hours. This shared-use approach not only extends access to electric truck operators but also helps infrastructure owners recover their investment faster.

Martin Hink, Head of eMobility/H2 Business Solutions at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, stated that TruckCharge aims to close a major gap in electric truck infrastructure. “With more than 1,000 dealers across Europe, we are well-positioned to rapidly expand our own network and provide customers a complete, profitable charging solution,” he said.
TruckCharge will act as a platform connecting site operators and fleet operators, offering features like planning, booking, reservations, and payment services. Fleet operators will benefit from lower costs compared to public stations, broader coverage, and the ability to reserve charging slots in advance.
This semi-public network will complement existing public infrastructure, including that operated by Milence—a joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP, and the Volvo Group—targeting 1,700 public fast-charging sites by 2027.

Daimler Truck is also expanding its integration with public charging providers. Customers can continue to use the Mercedes ServiceCard, linked to UTA Edenred’s charging network, currently accessible in Germany, Austria, and France, with further European coverage expected later this year.
Under the TruckCharge brand, Daimler Truck is consolidating all its electric infrastructure services—including consulting, operations, and infrastructure solutions—into a unified offering. The service is available to all truck fleet operators, regardless of brand, aiming to support businesses in transitioning to electric transport with comprehensive, cost-effective solutions.
