Cirrus Aircraft, a pioneer in general aviation, announced that it is furnishing Western Michigan University (WMU) with 32 TRAC SR Series aircraft. The addition comes as WMU is on the cusp of expanding its College of Aviation, one of the largest collegiate aviation schools in the United States.
Having relied on Cirrus Aircraft’s cutting-edge technology for student flight training, WMU is set to further capitalize on this long-standing partnership.
David Moser, Cirrus Aircraft’s Vice President of Fleet and Special Mission Sales, conveyed his enthusiasm for the continued collaboration. He noted, “We are honored to support one of the largest collegiate aviation schools in the United States with a new fleet of TRAC SR Series aircraft. The TRAC SR Series features an advanced safety and technology suite that continues to optimize how students learn to fly. We look forward to supporting our collegiate partners by providing a platform to train world-class pilots as they become the next generation of aviators.”
Dr. Raymond Thompson of WMU echoed this sentiment, highlighting the significance of the TRAC SR aircraft as the College of Aviation expands. He underscored the importance of the state-of-the-art training platform in equipping students with skills directly transferable to their pilot careers, giving them a competitive edge in the workforce.
The TRAC SR Series is purpose-built for ab-initio flight training and comes equipped with an array of advanced features that augment the SR20 aircraft’s stable flight characteristics. The integrated Garmin® flight deck boasts two large flight displays, a Flight Management System (FMS) keypad controller, an Electronic Stability and Protection system, and integrated engine indication and crew alerting/warning systems, mirroring the complexity of advanced airliners.
The interior is crafted to endure the rigors of a high-utilization training environment. Luxury materials from the SR Series have been replaced with a durable all-weather floor liner and easy-to-clean wear-resistant seats. The spacious cabin promotes effective learning and training, offering more space than typical training aircraft, rear seats for additional students or observers, and optional air conditioning for year-round comfort. The TRAC Series encompasses the TRAC20, TRAC22, and TRAC22T models.
The TRAC Series also features a robust all-composite airframe structure and the hallmark Cirrus Airframe Parachute System® (CAPS®), making it one of the safest, most versatile training aircraft on the market. This series is further augmented by a diverse suite of interactive, tailored flight training content via Cirrus Approach™, including online courses, engaging videos, and the award-winning iFOM (interactive Flight Operations Manual), providing an avenue for global learning.
