Chechen Republic (Russia): Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, has showcased a Tesla Cybertruck modified with a machine gun, claiming he intends to send it to Russian forces in Ukraine. In a video released on Saturday, Kadyrov is seen driving the Cybertruck through an empty square in Grozny, the Chechen capital, before stepping out and posing behind the mounted weapon.
Kadyrov claimed the vehicle was a gift from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a statement Musk later refuted on social media platform X, saying, “Are you seriously so retarded that you think I donated a Cybertruck to a Russian general?”
In his video, Kadyrov praised the Cybertruck as “invulnerable,” “fast,” and “maneuverable,” adding that it would soon be sent to the Ukrainian conflict zone, where he believes it will benefit Russian forces.
Musk, however, denied any involvement, dismissing the story as another instance of media misinformation.
Kadyrov, known for his loyalty to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has a controversial history, including allegations of human rights abuses. Both the U.S. State Department and the European Union have sanctioned him for his actions.
The Tesla Cybertruck, introduced by Musk in 2019, is an all-electric vehicle with a starting price of around $90,000. Despite its reputation for durability, its debut was marred when a demonstration of its “unbreakable” windows ended with two shattered panes.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Musk’s SpaceX has provided Starlink satellite internet service to Ukraine, supporting the country’s military operations against Russian forces.
