Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD anticipates that exports will account for roughly 20% of its global sales this year, driven by enhanced logistics and the introduction of new models, according to a report by South China Morning Post.
Li Yunfei, BYD’s general manager of branding and public relations, stated that the automaker expects to deliver between 800,000 and 1 million vehicles outside mainland China in 2025, out of a projected total of 4.6 million units.
Li noted that BYD’s growing export volume was supported by its own fleet of car-carrier ships. The company currently operates eight large vessels, with the biggest capable of carrying 9,200 vehicles. These ships travel international sea routes linking China to key markets like Europe and Southeast Asia.
The EV manufacturer is targeting global markets to boost its profitability, with plans to expand its European showroom network to 2,000 by 2026 and establish a fully localized supply chain to support production in the region.

Li Yunfei stated that BYD’s assembly plant in Hungary, which has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles, is set to begin operations early next year. The company also runs manufacturing facilities in Thailand and Brazil outside China.
Chinese-made EVs are gaining global popularity due to their competitive pricing, high-performance batteries, advanced in-car entertainment, and basic self-driving features. BYD’s expected overseas sales this year are on track to surpass the ambitious goals set by Beijing in its ‘Made in China 2025 industrial strategy,’ introduced in 2015.
In August, BYD launched an all-terrain track in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province in central China, aimed at encouraging broader adoption of electric vehicles. The facility features various experience zones, including an off-road park, an indoor sand dune, and a wading pool, designed to highlight the performance capabilities of its cars.

BYD stands among the four profitable EV manufacturers based in mainland China. As per its interim earnings report released in August, the company’s overseas deliveries in the second quarter soared by 145% year-on-year to 258,182 units, reflecting a 25.3% increase from the previous quarter.
